Old Yiddish melodies ring out in beautiful new arrangements of wedding and festival music from Jewish Eastern Europe. This music was thought to be lost and has not been heard or played for over 100 years - until today!

We explore a remarkable archive of manuscripts collected during ethnographic field research trips to Jewish villages in the Ukrainian countryside between 1912-1914.

The hand-written notebooks have been long-preserved in the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine and recently became available to the international klezmer community.

This treasure trove contains almost 1400 melodies, from which we’ve selected our favourite tunes, many of which are surprising and special and an exciting addition to the klezmer repertoire that survives today.

We hope that the musicians amongst you might be inspired to play these wonderful melodies yourselves. If you would like the sheet music, please go to our website to order the tune book. Editions available for all instruments.

One of my favourite musical discoveries in a while. These musicians are seriously talented. I can’t help imagining that there would have been a whole significant subculture of Yiddish psych rock like this in a different, kinder universe. For now, this is a window into that world that might have been. And I love every second of it. Audrey
